Hi all, just thought I would temporarily de-lurk to offer for criticism the
last deck I will build before G+E comes out despite still having 729 unread
e-mails in my Warlords folder (so apologies if this sort of thing has been
discussed between the 13th of October and now, that's where I have got up to
:-), or if it takes me a week or two to reply to any replies).
The idea behind this deck (I still can't think of a proper title for it) is
to utterly overwhelm the opposition with characters/attacks in the first two
turns, doing enough damage in the first to force them into moving up their
warlord before they are properly equipped.
Notice that despite playing the Cleric Guildmaster I am not using any
non-elves apart from Barbarella and SS-snakeguy (does he bite or does he
tail-whip? - personally I think he spits poision :-)) who are both mercs
anyway. This is very much an Elf deck (which makes me sad, they are prolly
my least favourite faction but the only ones I can make competative. I
truly suck at making Gnorrow Yaw decks, at least ones that don't use Xod as
a reinforcement and then I figure what's the point?)
All reinforcements can attack the turn they come into play (60% of them have
ranged strikes) and the action cards come in four forms - those that spare a
character (by healing them) thus effectively providing an additional
character - those that provide additional ATK and AC for the hordes of baby
elves swarming over the enemy front two ranks - those that provide
additional attacks (throw, Imps) - and those that run the deck out of cards
before you can say "um, pass?" (Daedalia also helps hugely in this regard).
Counting MatI as a gap in the deck along with Lady Bondage and Wheel of Fate
and this is only a 43 card deck (assuming you Wheel an otherwise empty
hand). Take out 6 starting characters and thats a 37 card deck. 19/37=~51%
characters with awsome deck manipulation (deciding whether or not to shuffle
your deck whilst holding a MatI after having seen the next 4 cards after the
one you draw is fairly powerful) and it's easy to have 8-10+ chars in the
first turn who can all attack (and then re-attack next turn).
Now, the disclaimer, I havn't had the chance to properly try this deck out
yet 'cos I only made it today and I already suspect that the Leveled!'s and
the Imps are coming out in favour of more Wheels and some Premonitions, but
considering how much faster it seems to deploy than my Elves on Speed whilst
also not risking my actual Warlord at all in the process (the one weakness I
felt I had with Rathe) or costing me cards to use my Warlord's
HeroPowers(tm) (quite the opposite, in fact), I suspect it will be a tad
more competative than my Yaw deck (which could force you to use your whole
deck to kill it - but never actually win itself) and my Slayer deck (which
spent it's entire existance stunned until I ran out of reinforcements and
died). That's why I can't think of a title for it..."Elves on even more
Speed"? "Behlial's Kindergarten"? "Start with your deck in play"? Hehehe.
I think (that assuming it works in the first place) it's one weakness will
be "big-spell" style wizards (Taoth, especially) who will simply melt the
whole deck one rank at a time, but I am kinda confidant that this deck will
do well against both Xod and Rathe and will laugh loudly at Krun ("dude,
only my Warlord has more than one wound in my whole deck - and you will
/have/ to kill him last"). Battles against against Rob will depend on the
opening die-rolls and whether or not Logan is in Rob's opening hand.
Likewise, battles against Uthanak will be faught in exactly the way Warlord
was meant to be played...except I'll be drawing far more cards each turn
:-).
Oh well, can't do any worse than my last two decks and if it turns out to be
better than Rathe I will have found my new fave Warlord.
TTFN,
Malkavelli.
Si guarda al fine.
(can you tell I'm a fan?)
